AAA Western and Central New York is using National Battery Day, February 18, to unveil the newest addition to its fleet: the Ford Ranger LS (light service). This truck has the capacity to tow certain vehicles while fitting in smaller spaces and driveways that AAA super-duty flatbeds can’t access. The truck’s mechanical rapid deployment trailer activates at the press of a button, giving AAA technicians the new ability to tow with a light service vehicle that also carries up to 20 car batteries in its truck bed. AAA Western and Central New York is the only AAA Club in the country offering the Ford Ranger LS for roadside assistance. 

AAA is also using National Battery Day to share tips on how motorists can keep their car batteries in good working condition.

February brings changing weather patterns across the region. AAA Western and Central New York’s battery related service calls increase during frigid temperatures. In fact, on an average February day, battery related needs account for 24 percent of local service calls. 

AAA is reminding motorists, who don’t drive often, to regularly go out and start their vehicle, and to take a ride around the neighborhood to keep the battery in good working condition.

AAA’s technicians can conduct battery testing right in the driveways or at the workplaces of motorists with AAA mobile battery trucks, which operate in most areas.
Motorists should be aware of signs that show a car's battery is nearing the end of its life. Here are some things to look out for:
•    Vehicle cranks slowly when trying to start
•    Grinding, clicking or buzzing when the ignition is turned on
•    Vehicle has stalled
•    Headlights dim when idling, but brighten when the driver revs the engine
•    Battery is more than three years old
