AAA Western and Central New York is pleased to announce the integration of mobile electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions as part of its Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG) efforts. AAA accepted delivery of three SparkCharge Roadie mobile electric vehicle charging units on June 4, 2021. The units will deploy in the Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse metropolitan areas in the coming months. AAA expects to expand service to pace EV market growth in the future.

Steve Finch, Senior Executive Vice President of Automotive Services for AAA Western and Central New York, was on hand to take delivery of the charging units. Finch said in his remarks, “AAA Western and Central New York is thrilled to partner with SparkCharge, Inc. to integrate its Roadie solution into our automotive services. We recognize that the future of the automotive industry is rapidly evolving to include alternate fuel vehicles. With these charging units we close a critical gap in our mobile service offerings for the electric vehicle segment and continue providing relevant service offerings to our members and the motoring public.”

According to SparkCharge, Roadie is the world’s first and only ultrafast, portable EV charging system. The units acquired by AAA Western and Central New York are capable of delivering a charge at a rate of one mile per minute of charge time resolving range anxiety, a concern for many potential EV owners. The service will pilot in the Buffalo and Syracuse metropolitan areas and expand to include Rochester in the near future.

SparkCharge, Inc. is a local company with ties across the region. The Buffalo-based manufacturer is a 43North award winner and was recently featured on Shark Tank where it secured $1 million in start-up funding. The company was founded by graduates of Syracuse University and Onondaga Community College. AAA is excited to partner with a local manufacturer to grow a network of mobile charging stations across Western and Central New York.
