Today’s national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $3.45, down eight cents from last Monday. One year ago, the price was $3.59. The New York State average is $3.62, down three cents from last Monday. A year ago, the NYS average was $3.70. AAA Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following averages:

  • Batavia - $3.56 (down 5 cents from last Monday)
  • Buffalo - $3.61 (down 3 cents from last Monday)
  • Elmira - $3.45 (down 2 cents from last Monday)
  • Ithaca - $3.66 (down 2 cents from last Monday)
  • Rochester - $3.64 (down 2 cents from last Monday)
  • Rome - $3.64 (down 5 cents from last Monday)
  • Syracuse - $3.60 (down 2 cents from last Monday)
  • Watertown - $3.68 (down 3 cents from last Monday)

Gasoline prices took another trip south this week, falling eight cents since last Monday to $3.45. According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gas demand dipped last week, meanwhile total domestic gasoline stocks jumped up. This morning, oil prices rest in the mid-70s to low 80s, dropping slightly from last Monday. Tepid gasoline demand, increasing supply, and falling oil costs will likely lead to the continued falling of pump prices, offering motorists some savings as we move into the unofficial start of summer.

Diesel prices are also moving down. The national average price for diesel is $3.79, down six cents from last Monday. The New York average is $4.28, down three cents from last Monday.

To conserve fuel, motorists should map routes, avoid peak traffic times like rush hour, and combine errands into one trip while using cruise control when possible. Drivers should also make sure tire pressure is at the vehicle’s recommended level for the best gas mileage while removing any unnecessary and bulky items from the car since it takes more fuel to accelerate a heavy vehicle.
