AAA Western & Central New York is launching a new business, effective Oct. 1, 2020, to offer home delivery and installation of AAA-branded car batteries to the 885,000 AAA Members in Upstate New York. The new business, Great Lakes Battery Service, LLC (GLBS), is a joint venture partnership between AAA WCNY and Club Assist North America, the preferred supplier for the AAA Mobile Car Battery Service Program. 

Many motorists have come to rely on AAA Mobile Car Battery Service over the years when their cars will not start; this partnership will enhance the benefit even further. Great Lakes Battery Service will now facilitate AAA Mobile Car Battery Service by supplying AAA-branded car batteries to 27 AAA Battery Service Provider locations throughout Western and Central New York. The business will also provide training, tools, and specialty equipment to Battery Service Technicians to support them in serving AAA Members experiencing car battery failure.

According to AAA, battery failure is the most common roadside assistance service request. During the past six months, with many people working from home, there has been a spike in battery service calls due to vehicles sitting idle and causing charging systems to discharge. Upon request, a Battery Service Technician is dispatched to a AAA Member’s location to perform diagnostic testing of the vehicle charging system to determine if the car battery is in good condition. If necessary, most car batteries can be replaced on site. 

As the most recycled consumer product in the United States, with a 99% recycling rate, Great Lakes Battery Service will recycle every car battery replaced. AAA Approved Auto Repair shops can also test and replace car batteries. For a fee, non-AAA Members may request AAA Mobile Battery Service.
