In its ongoing commitment to helping AAA Members prevent, prepare for and recover from life’s uncertainties, AAA Western and Central New York announced $37 million in additional refunds to auto policyholders – complementing the approximately $100 million in refunds announced in April. The announcement represents a 10% premium refund for an additional 46 days, through June 30.

“We’re extending our refund program to mirror the relative decrease in driving we’ve seen with continued shelter-in-place orders,” said Stacey McConnell, Director of Insurance with AAA WCNY. “As restrictions ease and driving increases, customers can be assured that their auto premiums will fairly reflect their driving behavior and claims frequency.”

In April, AAA Western and Central New York announced a 20% premium refund for two months after the beginning of widespread shelter-in-place orders (March 16 – May 15). The additional 10% premium refund reflects current and projected driving and claims data as restrictions begin to lift across the country and people begin driving more.

Members with an active policy as of June 30 will receive an additional refund of auto premiums (refunds are available everywhere, except where prohibited by law). Members do not need to take any action to receive their refund. The company will begin to issue the refunds in mid-July and expects the process to be completed within 30 days. Please see our FAQ for additional detail.

  • If a member has made a payment since our previous premium refund event via debit card, credit card, or electronic funds transfer (EFT), they will receive their refund directly back to that method of payment.
  • If a member has not made an electronic payment since our previous premium refund event, or their previous payment was made via any other form of payment (cash, personal check, etc.), or if they are unable to receive an electronic refund for any reason, they will receive their refund as a check via U.S. Mail.
  • If a member used the payment assistance option, they will receive a credit applied evenly over each bill remaining in their policy term.
  • If a member updated their policy to reflect changes to their driving habits since March, their premium refund is the difference between their total premium refund to date minus what has already been applied to their policy based on that update.

“As always, we want AAA Members to know we're here for them and want to help,” McConnell said. “Whether it’s for our customers, our communities or our employees, we are committed to being excellent corporate citizens.”
