As travel restrictions continue to ease up, many people, itching to get away, are interested in destinations closer to home at first. For 120 years AAA Western and Central New York has been a part of America’s love for driving and road trips. Here are some recommendations from our travel experts:

  • Adirondacks: “I love Lake Placid because it’s so peaceful and the mountains are beautiful. I grew up camping here every year. There’s so much to see and do, no matter what area you go to or what time of year you visit.” – Katie Miechowicz, Orchard Park
AAA Road Trip Recommendations: Adirondack Trail, Adirondack Mountains, High Peaks Scenic Byway, Lake George Scenic Byway, Adirondack Northway Scenic Highway, Central Adirondack Trail

  • Acadia National Park (Maine): “Our favorite thing in the park is the 20-mile Park Loop Road. Be sure to walk the rocky headlands along the Atlantic coastline. The scenery will take your breath away.” – Mary McIntosh, Watertown Travel Center.
AAA Road Trip Recommendation: Acadia National Park Scenic Loop Road

  • Boston: “There’s something for everyone. History buffs, sports fans, art lovers, and shopping fanatics will love Boston. I highly recommend Fenway Park Tour and walking the Freedom Trail. Make sure to enjoy some lobster and Boston cream pie.” – Sarah Feldmann, Amherst Travel Center.
AAA Road Trip Recommendations: Battle Road Historic Byway, Southern New England

  • Mystic Connecticut: “Mystic offers so much for a small town. It’s a maritime village which re-creates the village to many years ago. It’s so much fun for children and adults. The town has the cutest shopping village as well as an aquarium and the famous Mystic Pizza.” – Sara Hodgson, Magic Creator.
AAA Road Trip Recommendations: Southern New England

  • New York City: “There’s so much to see in New York City. Get great views of the skyline and the Statue of Liberty from the Staten Island Ferry – and it’s free! See the city from above at the Top of the Rock. You must have dinner in one of NYC’s unique neighborhoods. I love Becco in the Theater District, and it’s close to iconic Times Square. Make sure to take a walk in Central Park and pay a visit to the 9/11 Memorial & Museum.” – Sarah Feldmann, Amherst Travel Center.
AAA Road Trip Recommendations: Palisades Interstate Scenic Parkway, Hudson Valley
