Loyal Buffalo Bills fans will stop at nothing to see their team in the playoffs. Just ask Dean Metzger who is driving down to Houston to cheer the team on.

“There are six of us all in one vehicle,” he said. “We haven’t mapped it out yet, we’re going to do that in a few minutes.”

According to AAA’s TripTik Travel Planner, it’s approximately 1,500 miles from Buffalo to Houston, which would take about 22 hours of drive time. In an average SUV, it would cost $130 in gas to get to the game – this is by far the most economical way to travel.

“Most flights from Buffalo to Houston are sold out, but there are a few seats all hovering at more than $1,000 roundtrip,” said Brian Murray, director of travel at AAA Western and Central New York.

But for many Bills fans, the opportunity to experience a playoff game is priceless. Metzger says that’s what encouraged his group to plan their trip, “The Bills’ excitement and a playoff game, we had the opportunity and said, ‘let’s do it!”

After a two-night stay, Metzger will return to Buffalo and plans to share his experience on social media. “It’s all about great Bills fans getting together and enjoying a great road trip.”

Metzger will be traveling with peace of mind thanks to his AAA membership. “We have it and if we need to, we will use it,” he said.

AAA mechanics remind road trippers to check their vehicle over before they head out – make sure the tires are properly inflated and that fluid levels are correct and pack an emergency road kit to be on the safe side including jumper cables, snacks and a cell phone charger.

As for the outcome of the game, Metzger is hopeful. “They’re going to win,” he exclaimed.
