With Americans staying home to help stop the spread of the coronavirus, people are driving less. As a result, insurance carriers are seeing fewer auto claims. Now, AAA Western and Central New York insurers are treating $900,000 to local auto insurance customers.

David Hodge, Vice President of Insurance with AAA Western and Central New York, said AAA is proud to offer savings to policyholders during the pandemic.

“We’ve all faced some unwelcome surprises over the past few months, and I’m glad we get the share a positive surprise with our auto policyholders now,” said Hodge.

AAA offers several auto insurance providers granting rebates and credits. Some highlights include:

  • CSAA members will receive a 20% rebate for two months of auto premiums. CSAA will return over $100 million to policyholders.
  • NYCM auto policyholders will receive a 15% credit back from their April and May premiums.
  • Kemper personal auto customers will receive a 15% credit for two months of auto premiums.
  • Plymouth Rock is offering a 25% credit on liability and personal injury protection coverages. Plymouth Rock is also granting a waiver of comprehensive and collision deductibles for any health care worker involved in an accident while driving to and from work, or in the line of duty.
  • LM/Safeco auto policyholders will receive 15% rebates on two months of their premiums, with the company returning $250 million to customers.
  • Travelers is giving auto customers a 15% credit for April and May premiums.
  • Progressive auto policyholders will receive 20% credits on their premiums over two months. Progressive will return $1 billion in premium to personal auto customers.

The rebates are being applied automatically. Many carriers are offering additional benefits, including waiving late fees and suspending cancellation during the coronavirus outbreak. AAA’s team of insurance providers are working to take the burden off policyholders, according to Hodge.

“This situation has developed rapidly, and more changes are bound to come. Policyholders will be informed when our carriers make any decisions,” said Hodge.

Hodge recommends that current auto policyholders contact their agent at AAA to find out about any additional benefits or changes to their policy.
