One of the greatest inventions of the modern world was undoubtedly the horseless carriage – the predecessor to today’s modern automobiles. In the 1860s, those early motor cars used steam to propel them along at a breathtaking pace of 3 miles per hour.
By 1902, approximately 23,000 cars were dashing along roadways throughout the United States. On March 4 of that year, the American Automobile Association (AAA) was formed to dedicate itself to the future of transportation.
Later, in 1915, AAA was the first organization in America to introduce Emergency Roadside Service for stranded motorists. Today, AAA is proud to serve more than 62 million Members across its federation of 30 AAA Motor Clubs throughout the United States.

One of the most requested roadside services comes from Members with a car that will not start because of a dead battery. By the mid-1990s, AAA began providing car battery service for Members in several states.

There are many possible reasons why a car won’t start. It could be an issue with the starter motor, alternator, engine, or electrical system. When a Member contacts AAA in a no-start situation, AAA sends a trained Battery Service Technician to the Member’s location to find a solution. The Technician performs a complete diagnostic test of the charging system, and checks that the battery connections are clean, tight, and free of corrosion.
Technicians carry competitively-priced car batteries on their service trucks and can replace the battery for most vehicles on the spot. In addition, all AAA batteries come with a 36-month warranty, which includes a free replacement within the first three years if the battery fails.
